Central hotels near Gospodska Street are easiest for walking to every sight.

Don't expect Sarajevo's Islamic-heritage atmosphere here — it's a genuinely different identity, best approached as a general Eastern European stop rather than a Gulf-tailored one.

Getting around: The small international airport (BNX) has limited seasonal flights — most visitors arrive by bus from Sarajevo (~3 hrs) or Zagreb. City buses cover the neighborhoods, but the historic core around Kastel and the main boulevard is entirely walkable. No metro or tram.

Halal & prayer places: Very thin — the city is majority Orthodox and pork/alcohol are standard on most menus. The Ferhadija Mosque (16th century, fully restored after its deliberate demolition in the Bosnian War) and the Grand Mosque are the main prayer points, but there's no confidently-declared halal restaurant near the center — ask directly, or default to safe vegetarian/fish dishes.

Cost figures: 2026 prices: casual meal 10–15 KM (~5–8 EUR), mid-range restaurant 20–35 KM, coffee 2–3 KM — slightly cheaper than Sarajevo. The Sarajevo–Banja Luka bus runs roughly 25–30 KM one-way.
