December–April for the ski season (best snow January–February); summer is quiet and suits mountain hiking at much lower prices.

Staying near the lower gondola station gives the shortest morning walk to the slopes; the old town is quieter in the evenings.

Book both the gondola pass and the Sofia overland transfer ahead on winter weekends — crowds spike sharply. Non-skiers can substitute nearby hiking and thermal spa activities.

Getting around: No car needed within the town — the gondola launches from a central station near the hotels, and most accommodation is walkable. Arrival from Sofia airport requires an overland transfer (~2.5–3h, 160km) via shared shuttle (~€27–35 pp) or private transfer (~€75–120 per car). There's no nearby airport.

Halal & prayer places: No formally declared halal restaurants within Bansko itself; a small nearby village has a mosque serving a longstanding local Muslim community. Some tourist restaurants can prepare pork-free meat dishes on request — ask directly, and don't assume certified-halal standards.

Cost figures: 2025–2026 season prices: an adult day lift pass ~BGN 110 (~€56), a beer at a local bar ~€2, a 5-star hotel for six nights starts around ~€700, the season runs 1 December–12 April.
