✈️ First 24 Hours
From IST airport: Havaist bus (~USD 2, 60–90 min) or the M11 metro; taxi ~USD 30. Buy SIMs at city branches, not the airport (half price). Exchange in town, not the airport. Download BiTaksi and get an Istanbulkart.
🗓️ Best time to visit
April–June or September–early November: mild weather, calmer prices. July–August is very crowded; winter is cold and rainy but has its own charm.

🏨 Where to stay
Families: Fatih or Başakşehir (quiet, near Arab community and services). Youth/solo: Taksim, Şişli, Beyoğlu — central with everything nearby. Budget: Laleli, decent and close to transit and markets.
⚠️ Tips & warnings
Expect crowds in summer and rush hours — plan around them. Prices vary: confirm before buying or riding taxis, and use BiTaksi. Avoid Bosphorus-view restaurants without clear prices, and politely decline offers from strangers in tourist areas. Occasional price inflation toward Gulf tourists is reported in crowded spots — stay calm and avoid arguments.
📍 On the ground
Getting around: The Istanbulkart unlocks everything (metro, tram, ferries) — top it up at any station. Tram T1 serves Sultanahmet, and ferries are the loveliest crossing between shores. Taxis via BiTaksi or Uber dodge the classic meter games.
🏨 Where do Gulf travelers stay?:
