The townsite itself, smaller and quieter than Banff — options are fewer post-wildfire, so early booking matters more than ever.

Check road status (Cavell Road and Maligne Canyon closed for 2026) before planning, and consider the visit direct support for a community genuinely recovering from disaster.

Getting around: A small town that walks on foot, reached mainly by car via the Icefields Parkway from Banff (~230km, 3 hours) or by train from Edmonton. The Jasper SkyTram climbs Whistlers Mountain for panoramic views. The town is still in wildfire-recovery mode after the major 2024 fire, but is fully open for the 2026 season with 70+ restaurants and 25+ accommodations operating.

Halal & prayer places: Essentially nonexistent — a very small mountain town with no mosque and no declared halal restaurant; stocking up from Calgary or Edmonton before arrival is necessary for those strict about halal.
