Old town and Sololaki for character and closeness; Vera and Vake are calmer and newer.

Bolt is very cheap for getting around. Try khinkali and khachapuri; halal is easiest at the many Arab/Turkish spots.

Getting around: A two-line metro on the Metromoney card (~GEL 1 a ride); Bolt beats street taxis on price and trust. The cable car to Narikala leaves from Rike Park. Intercity: private driver or marshrutka from Didube.

Halal & prayer places: Halal clusters along Aghmashenebeli Avenue (effectively the Arab quarter) and Freedom Square — dense Turkish, Azeri and Arab options. Beyond them always ask; classic Georgian dishes use pork and wine.
