β οΈ Tips & warnings
Book an organized wine tour β pricing is standard and translation is available. Drink water β weather is hot and dry in summer.
π On the ground
Getting around: From Tbilisi: direct bus ~1.5 hours (8β10 GEL). From Sighnaghi: local taxi ~20 min (3β5 GEL). Within Telavi: small center, walkable. Wine estate visits require hourly taxi or organized tours (very common and reliable).
Halal & prayer places: Moderate β Telavi is more developed as a tourist hub than Sighnaghi. Some restaurants offer safe meat/chicken options without pork (ask directly); no known mosque but a small Muslim community exists. Western-style restaurants offer alternatives to purely traditional fare.
Local safety: Same as country β
Cost figures: 2026 prices: local meal 25β40 GEL, mid-range restaurant 50β80 GEL, winery tour with tasting 15β25 GEL, full wine tour (transport + 2 estates + meal) 50β80 GEL.
