Getting around: A direct bus from Quito (~5 hours) descends a mountain road into the jungle. Short distances within the small town walk on foot, and river canoes are essential to reach lodges deeper in the forest.

Halal & prayer places: Nearly nonexistent — a small Amazon gateway town with no halal infrastructure whatsoever; rely on river fish, tropical fruit and vegetarian meals.

Local safety: Relatively safe as a small town, but the caution here is more health-and-environmental than security — yellow fever vaccination is strongly recommended, and insect repellent plus malaria prophylaxis are necessary for visiting deeper jungle; only enter the forest with a licensed guide from the local Kichwa communities.
