βœ… Full guideLast updated: 14/07/2026

πŸ—“οΈ Best time to visit

April–June and September–October; summer heat belongs to the coast.

πŸ“Έ Top activities & landmarks

  • Skanderbeg square and the grand new mosque
  • Bunk'Art β€” the nuclear-era tunnels
  • The Dajti cable car
  • Blloku's cafΓ© district
  • Day trip: historic Kruja

🏨 Where to stay

Around Blloku and the center; good hotels at happily surprising rates.

⚠️ Tips & warnings

Muslim-majority with a very relaxed rhythm; halal comes easy. Frankly: pavements and driving are chaotic and infrastructure trails the neighbors β€” the real beauty waits south (Saranda and the Riviera).

πŸ“ On the ground

Getting around: From Tirana International Airport (Rinas): the Rinas Express bus runs hourly day and night (€4, 30–40 min) or a licensed yellow taxi (€10–25, ~20 min). Uber does not operate in Albania and is illegal there, but the Bolt app works and is typically cheaper than a standard taxi. In the city: 20+ numbered bus lines run on a flat 40 lek (~€0.37) fare paid to an onboard conductor, operating roughly 6am–11pm. That said, the center itself is flat and compact β€” most visitors simply walk between Skanderbeg Square, Blloku, and the main sights, all within a 15–20 minute walk of each other.

Halal & prayer places: Good and easy-going β€” a Muslim-majority country with no fuss about it. The historic Et'hem Bey Mosque (1789–1823) sits on Skanderbeg Square, alongside the large new Namazgja Mosque (opened 2024), which holds a packed Friday Jummah. Declared halal restaurants include Hayal Et (Turkish), Delibros (certified halal burgers), Centro (Syrian), and Arabesque (Arabic, since 2017) β€” but Albania has no official third-party halal certification body, so asking the cook or butcher directly still beats trusting a sign alone.

Local safety: Same as country β†’

Cost figures: 2026 prices: a traditional meal under €6, a fast-food combo ~$9, a full three-course mid-range meal ~$21, a city bus ticket 40 lek (~€0.37), Bunk'Art entry €9 (a combined Bunk'Art 1 + 2 ticket runs ~€8 each), the Dajti cable car round-trip ~€8–15.
