β οΈ Tips & warnings
Take bus 409 directly from the airport instead of a taxi for a big saving if travelling light. The city makes a good base for a day trip to Nessebar or the northern resorts.
π On the ground
Getting around: A solid bus network anchored by line 409, which links the airport, city centre, and northern resorts directly. The historic core and Sea Garden park are both easily walkable. Varna International Airport serves dozens of European destinations seasonally; trains and buses connect from Sofia (~7h train, ~6h bus) and Burgas (~2h).
Halal & prayer places: Genuine halal Turkish restaurants exist (e.g. Orient) serving kebabs and grills, but they're scattered rather than clustered in one district as in Sofia. No major known active mosque within the city itself β check ahead if congregational prayer is a priority.
Local safety: Same as country β
Cost figures: 2026 prices: casual meal β¬7β12, a mid-range seafront restaurant β¬15β25 per person, a single bus ticket ~β¬0.80, the Archaeological Museum (Thracian gold) ~β¬6 adult.
